Spirit: Brandy

Title: Wild Blackberry Jubilee

Making this great ol’ favorite has almost become a lost art.  If you follow Connie’s tried and true guidelines from recipes given to her by her mother many years ago, this Black Bottom Pie will be a real crowd pleaser.

Ingredients

1 qt blackberries, frozen
1/4 c sugar
2 T cornstarch
1/4 of a lemon rind, grated
2 t lemon juice
1/3 c brandy

ice cream or Baked Alaska

Directions

1. Thaw blackberries and drain off syrup. (Keep syrup)
2. Combine syrup with sugar and cornstarch.
3. Heat and stir constantly until thickened.
4. Add lemon rind and juice; stir.
5. Then add blackberries, heat through.
5. To flame in a chafing dish, heat 1/3 c brandy in a saucepan.
6. Pour over blackberries and syrup in chafing dish and ignite.
7. Serve flaming over ice cram or over individual servings of Baked Alaska.
